Well if the shrines are higher than an hand palms lenght they are to be destroyed as people come to pray to them. That's a nice quote about how one important Muslim ruler treated CHRISTIAN shrines at one location. It has nothing to with how Islam treated polytheists or other not at first considered worthy of toleration, who were considerably worse for wear once Islam invaded their lands. You might want to investigate what the Muslims prior to Umar did to the Zoroastrians & their temples, for example, or how Mahmud al-Ghazni treated Hindus and their holy sites.
